How Trailbound uses AI

Version 2026-09-07 · Trailbound notice

Optional race stories and crew videos

Trailbound uses AI for motivational race stories and optional crew videos. Daily activity and nutrition check-ins do not require AI. Trailbound does not generate workout plans or infer race readiness from your check-ins.

Race stories use event facts

The first time a team opens its next-adventure details, AI may turn the team name and known race facts—format, date, distance, terrain, location, and obstacle count—into a short motivational story. The saved story is reused and does not include private athlete training or health data.

Data minimization

Private activity measurements, nutrition answers, weight, recovery values, and health notes are excluded from race-story and crew-video prompts.

AI crew videos

When an adult teammate adds a profile photo, Trailbound may send that photo for video generation. Trailbound may send up to three adult teammates’ profile photos, first names, known race facts, and the team’s broad journey stage to Gemini’s video model to create a short, clearly labeled team check-in with generated audio.

The finished video is stored privately for authenticated members of that team. Replacing or removing a profile photo, or deleting an account, removes any saved team video that used that photo. Generated likeness and audio may not perfectly match the teammate.

Fallback

If AI times out, refuses, returns malformed output, or is unavailable, Trailbound uses an event-based fallback story. Unavailable videos remain clearly labeled.
